Nourot Studio’s blog had it’s last post in 2012 but is still here: “Benician Glass” on blogspot. People can find us better using Benician because Nourot is a hard to remember name. The city of Benicia, California was named for Dona Francesca Benicia Vallejo, wife of General Vallejo (pictured).
General Vallejo was confronted by a group of Benicians at his front door. He handed over Norte Californio to the Americans at the Bear Flag Rebellion June 14, 1846 in Sonoma, California. In Vallejo’s defence the Mexican government was less than supportive of the post he held. At any rate, Dona Benicia is our town’s namesake. We like to think she wanted to move back to the waterfront in Benicia.
